Unlike many private health insurers, WPA rejects the relatively new “open referral” model.*
Under open referral, insurers only refer to consultants and hospital which have previously agreed to its fee structures. WPA argues this restricts choice and that referrals should be made only on clinical grounds.
It points out referrals are typically made by GPs or that a patient may want to make their own choice based upon previous treatment or their own research.
When clients wish access to a wider choice of local consultants and treatment centres than offered in their area under open referral, we may therefore recommend WPA.
WPA offers a broad portfolio of both individual and company medical insurance policies.
These include specialist schemes such as the Active Health senior health insurance for the over-65s and Multi-Family healthcare Plan which enables protection of the extended family and across generations.
Other useful policies for individuals and families include ‘top up’ NHS and dental health cash plans.
WPA’s professional and self-employed health insurance policies also offer specially discounted rates.
Finally, WPA is a provident association which works for the benefit of its members rather than shareholders. We recognise that its status as a mutual, not-for-profit organisation may be important to some clients.
