Statistics from the 2013 Employee Benefits survey* suggest that companies should consider introducing group dental insurance if they want their salary packages to remain competitive.
The survey found an uplift in the number of businesses offering dental cover as a core employee benefit, while the number offering it as a flexible benefit has risen from 11% to 23% since 2009. It also revealed over one in five businesses offer company dental insurance as a voluntary benefit.
Its growing appeal is understandable given its relatively low cost, the value placed on it by employees, and the potential to reduce absenteeism and increase productivity by encouraging staff to seek treatment when they need it – not when they can afford it. Many find NHS charges a disincentive or simply unaffordable as, for example, a crown currently costs £219 – you might double that figure for private treatment.
