Q: What levels of cover are available to me?

Almost every health insurance provider will have different policies available, which will all be designed to offer different levels of cover at different prices.

Budget health insurance policies cover the very basics.

The more cost-effective private health insurance policies will cover inpatient and daypatient consultation procedures – for example surgeries and recoveries. It’s unlikely they’d cover diagnostic tests or other outpatient treatments, and options such as cancer cover would likely be included as ‘extras’.

A mid-range health insurance policy has most of your bases covered.

Mid-range policies would include the above, plus start to include some outpatient consultations (before diagnosis for example), outpatient diagnostic testing and could include physiotherapy too.

Comprehensive health insurance policies offer the highest level of cover available.

You could expect a comprehensive policy to provide you with unlimited inpatient, day-patient and outpatient cover, plus additional features such as cancer cover, at-home nursing or complementary therapies.
