Generally, the process for making a claim follows these steps, as each provider has a slightly different process you should refer to your policy documents.
When you visit your GP let them know you have Individual Healthcare Insurance. If they refer you to a specialist for an initial consultation you need to contact your insurance provider.
It's important that at this stage you call your provider to make sure the consultation is covered under your policy. You will be given a 'pre-authorisation number' which you will need to take to the hospital. This ensures all costs are sent direct back to the insurer.
Following your consultation your specialist may recommend you for further treatment, either as an in-patient where you will need to stay over night or as a day patient.
You will need to call your individual health care insurance provider to make sure the treatment recommended for you is covered by your policy. You will be given another 'pre-authorisation number' which you will need to take to the hospital. This ensures all costs are sent direct back to the insurer.
Once you've received your treatment you may need to go back for a follow up appointment. Call your insurer to let them know.
